Russian Tuition for 2-5 year-olds

Why start learning Russian from young?

When teaching your child a second language, it's best to start early. Thus, Russian School Istok offers tuition to children from the age of two. For children in English-only families, it allows the child to discover that there are other languages spoken out there and begins the process of getting the brain ready for another language. For mixed language and Russian-only language families, the school will cement the Russian practiced at home and show the child that there are other out there speaking Russian and not just their parent(s).

Our Russian Tuition Methodology

In this age group, our emphasis is on 'learning by playing'. This education method has become very popular in schools throughout the UK, as it achieved dramatic results. Children are only just beginning to absorb techniques that will form the foundation of their learning lives. Things such as listening to the teacher and repeating after the teacher as well as playing with the specially prepared study aides are all key in their development. Another area of development is teamworking and communication. Children need to learn to talk to each other which then will lead to them playing and working together and forming friendships. To help this process along, there is frequent use of group activities aimed at naturally giving the children an opportunity to interact with someone their own age.

What Russian Classes are offered

Classes offered include Language, Music, Dance & Russian Traditions and Art. Each class is 1 hour long but is broken up into smaller individual tasks to keep young children engaged.

Russian Language Class

In Russian Language Class, our children take part n a series of interactive and play orientated activities aimed at developing the following abilities:

Listening and speech skills - Vital that children learn to listen to Russian speech (when spoken to the teacher) and start the process of vocalising

Repetition - At this age group repetition is an important method in the development of vocalisation and serves to develop their listening skills too

Communication with the teacher and other children - At this age group children are in the process of learning how to socialise with others. Good communication (whether verbal of physical) is vital for the process of socialisation to happen. We encourage your child to answer questions and talk with other students in the class

Numbers, Counting and Shapes - Gaining a numeracy in Russian is important, so the early years include quite a lot of work on learning numbers in Russian as well as working out simple sums.

Colours - Colour along with shape and texture is one of the core ways in which young children explore the world around them. We incorporate colours into a lot of our work, to add an extra level of interest - kids do love their colours!

Alphabet - As a precursor to reading and writing, all students are taught the alphabet in fun and modern ways using the latest

Nature, Seasons and Animals - We use children's innate fascination with animals both to put across larger concepts of the world around them and also to develop their vocabulary

Professions - Children are getting to the age where they understand when their parent(s) are going to work. The professions work looks to develop kid's vocabulary as well as giving them the first glimpses as to what roles are required to keep our society working smoothly

Modes of Transportation and Road Safety - We take our road safety very seriously and as such make it a point to teach it alongside more 'fun' topics such as modes of transportation

Morals and Behaviour - Every parents wants a well behaved child and here at Russian School Istok we strive to develop students into well mannered individuals

Finger Puppets - We utilise finger puppets and other such modern educational techniques to get children to absorb the information we provide, because it's not just about what you teach them, but how you do it that will really make the difference in the end.

Music, Dance & Russian Traditions Class

In our music lessons we try to teach and instil in the children an emotional appreciation of all types of music. We develop the listening and rhythm skills of each child and bring out the full talents of each individual. We use the most up to date teaching methods to achieve this including the likes of Сергей и Екатерина Железновы.

We use a full range of skills such as singing, rhythm games, dancing, and movement. In this age group, the children are being introduced to musical instruments and Russian folklore. Finally, we develop listening, understanding and memory through the use of music.

Art Class

We use art to develop your child's basic physical dexterity skills around holding and using different art tools such as brushes. In tandem with the Language class, we teach our students basic colour theory (choosing the right colours for the right subject) and encourage them to pay attention to the world around them and to recreate what they see. We also focus on comparison and identification of shapes.
