Russian Tuition for 5-8 year-olds

Our Russian Tuition Methodology

In this age group, our emphasis moves from “learn by playing” to more focused tuition and learning. Reading and textbook study become much more important in this age group. The kids can now read, say in their own words, draw some conclusions. They start developing analytical skills by asking questions. They communicate much more actively with other students and really develop friendships. Also, this age group sees a dramatic increase in the vocabulary used by the students.

What Russian Classes are offered

Classes offered include Language, Music & Russian Traditions and Art. Each class is 1 hour long but is broken up into smaller individual tasks to keep children engaged.

Russian Language Class

In Russian Language Class, our children take part n a series of interactive and play orientated activities aimed at developing the following abilities:

Listening and speech skills - Vital that children learn to listen to Russian speech (when spoken to the teacher) and start the process of vocalising

Repetition - At this age group repetition is an important method in the development of vocalisation and serves to develop their listening skills too

Communication with the teacher and other children - At this age group children are in the process of learning how to socialise with others. Good communication (whether verbal of physical) is vital for the process of socialisation to happen. We encourage your child to answer questions and talk with other students in the class

Numbers, Counting and Shapes - Gaining a numeracy in Russian is important, so the early years include quite a lot of work on learning numbers in Russian as well as working out simple sums.

Colours - Colour along with shape and texture is one of the core ways in which young children explore the world around them. We incorporate colours into a lot of our work, to add an extra level of interest - kids do love their colours!

Alphabet - As a precursor to reading and writing, all students are taught the alphabet in fun and modern ways using the latest

Nature, Seasons and Animals - We use children's innate fascination with animals both to put across larger concepts of the world around them and also to develop their vocabulary

Professions - Children are getting to the age where they understand when their parent(s) are going to work. The professions work looks to develop kid's vocabulary as well as giving them the first glimpses as to what roles are required to keep our society working smoothly

Modes of Transportation and Road Safety - We take our road safety very seriously and as such make it a point to teach it alongside more 'fun' topics such as modes of transportation

Morals and Behaviour - Every parents wants a well behaved child and here at Russian School Istok we strive to develop students into well mannered individuals

Finger Puppets - We utilise finger puppets and other such modern educational techniques to get children to absorb the information we provide, because it's not just about what you teach them, but how you do it that will really make the difference in the end.

Russian Art Class

The Art class in this age group takes over from where the junior class left, adding the following items to the learning list:

  • Development of listening and speech skills
  • Vocabulary development
  • Communication with teacher and other children

Russian Music Class

In our music lessons we continue to develop the listening and rhythm skills of each child and bring out the full talents of each individual. There is more emphasis of the theory of music as well as the role of the musical instruments in an orchestra.

How the combination of instruments work together to create a musical piece, the role of a conductor in an orchestra and examples of different classical music (ballet, opera etc.) all form an integral part of the curriculum.

But this is not just a listening class. We use a full range of skills, singing, rhythm games, dancing, and movement. In this age group, the children have already been introduced to musical instruments and Russian folklore. We develop listening, understanding and memory through the use of music.
